Jamjuree Wood Whale Tongs

$39.50

Inspired by Australian designer David Mayhew's love of the ocean and the shape of a whale’s tail as it disappears into the depths, these handcrafted wooden tongs are an essential for serving salads and other foods.  The novel, patented magnetic hinge makes the tong easy to separate and use in other areas of food preparation as well as easy to clean.  The designer donates a percent of the profit to the Save the Whales foundation.  Winner of the Tasmanian Design Award 2006.  Hand wash only.

Why, you may ask, would you ever need Jamjuree Wood Whale Tongs?  Well, besides the mid-century modern glass egg bowl that is just waiting for a salad and these tongs to fill it, Whale Tongs can be a necessary item in many other situations.

Does your five-year-old fancy herself a new Madonna? Let me tell you, it might have been Tina Turner and a brass serving spoon when I was young, but nothing would make a better faux microphone for the soon-to-be-legendary lip-syncing of your child.

Do you have a sibling that needs to be reminded of the fact that you are and always have been considerably smarter than them?  I would never promote violence, but a gentle tap from one side of these tongs would leave a nice welt as a reminder.

Okay, all kidding aside, these Jamjuree Wood Whale Tongs are one of the most ingeniously simple design items ever. Smoothly constructed of Jamjuree wood to echo the lines of a whale silhouette, these tongs are held together by a strong magnet that allows them to work together or be pulled apart for single use.
